Billing

Mast Pager is free on both stores, with no in-app purchases. What costs money is a plan on your Tissue Mast account, billed by Stripe. This page says what the receipt is for, and what happens when a card fails, when a plan goes down, and when you want an annual charge back.

The plan is what's billed

Everything that costs money is a plan on your Tissue Mast account, chosen under Plan and billing in the web app and billed by Stripe. Stripe emails the receipt and the invoice for each charge; Plan and billing in the web app shows the plan you are on and opens Stripe's billing portal, where the card on file, the invoices and the next renewal date live. A plan is monthly or annual, your choice at checkout, and the annual price is the monthly one with two months taken off.

The plan sets caps (people, channels, vitals, probes, history) and switches on the features above Free. The limits page has the per-plan numbers. A page sent to a channel you own reaches your phone on Free and on every plan above it.

Prices are before tax. Sales tax is added at checkout where we are registered to collect it, which as of this page is Washington State.

When the card fails

Stripe tells us the moment a renewal charge is declined. We email the account owner and retry the card over the following days, and for 14 days nothing changes.

If the card is still failing after 14 days, we pause the parts of Mast that act on your behalf:

  • escalation to other people on the account, including a flatline's escalation,
  • probes.

The pager itself is never paused. A page sent to a channel you own reaches your phone the whole time, and so does a vital's flatline page to you. The idea is that a lapsed card should never be the reason you missed the page that mattered; it is the reason nobody else got it.

A successful charge lifts the pause on its own. Nothing is deleted at any point.

Downgrading over a cap

Move to a smaller plan while you hold more than it allows and we delete nothing, but the things past each cap stop until you move back up. Within the hour, the newest channels, vitals, keys, probes, rotations, policies and status pages beyond the new plan's numbers are paused: a paused channel or key answers sends with 403 over_cap, a paused vital is not watched for a flatline, a paused probe stops checking, a paused rotation or policy is not followed (those pages go to everyone), and a paused status page answers 404. The oldest ones keep working. People beyond the plan's headcount stay on the account and can still be paged, but go read-only: they can see everything and change nothing. The account owner gets one page saying what the account holds against the new plan's numbers.

Bringing the count under the cap, or moving back up, lifts all of it within the hour. Which things count toward a cap, and the cap on each plan, is on the limits page.

Getting an annual charge back

An annual term is refunded pro rata if you ask within 30 days of the charge: the unused months come back to the card and the plan ends. Email hello@tissue.systems from the owner's address. Monthly charges are not refunded; cancelling stops the next one and the plan runs to the end of the month you paid for.

If Mast ever shuts down

Every account owner gets at least 90 days' email notice. For that whole period the channels-as-code export keeps working, so channels, keys, vitals, schedules and history leave in a file the reconcile script already reads, and the unused part of any annual term is refunded without being asked. That promise is written into the terms, section 07.
