# Tissue Mast vs PagerDuty

PagerDuty is the product the category is named after, and its price is the one every other on-call tool is measured against. The two products reach the same phone and charge for it in opposite ways.

PagerDuty Professional is $21 a user a month on an annual term, $25 billed monthly. A team of five is $105 a month, a team of 25 is $525, and the free plan stops at five users with one schedule and one escalation policy.

Tissue Mast charges for the account. Team is $79 a month for up to ten people and Company is $149 for up to 25, and both include the monitoring that decides whether to page in the first place. Five seats there is $105 a month on their annual price, ten is $210; Team here is $79.

## What each one is

Two sentences each, before any numbers.

- **PagerDuty** — The on-call platform most large operations teams run: schedules, escalation policies, incident workflows, post-incident reviews, and notification by push, SMS, voice and email, fed by alerts from hundreds of integrations. Priced per user, with a platform tier above that priced per year.
- **Tissue Mast** — An uptime monitor with a pager attached. Probes fetch your URLs from eight locations, vitals page you when a cron job does not check in, and a channel is a URL anything can post to. A page rings the Mast Pager app on iPhone through silent mode and Do Not Disturb, and escalates through a rotation until someone answers.

## Where PagerDuty is the better choice

Scale. If you have fifty responders across several teams, a separate NOC, or a compliance team that wants post-incident reviews inside the paging tool, PagerDuty has all of it and we have none of it. Company stops at 25 people.

The integration list. PagerDuty receives from hundreds of products natively. Tissue Mast receives from anything that can make an HTTP request, which covers most of them, but you will write the request yourself.

SMS and a voice call as the last resort. PagerDuty will phone you. We will ring the app on every phone you own and then the next person’s; if all of those are off the network, the page waits.

## Where Tissue Mast is the better choice

The bill is one line. Ten people, $79. The fourth person on the rotation is not a billing event, and neither is the twentieth.

The monitor and the pager are one product. The page that wakes you says which of the eight locations failed, on how many networks, and what the server returned, because the thing that checked is the thing that rang.

A page you can trust on a phone in Do Not Disturb. The app holds Apple’s Critical Alerts entitlement and the Android equivalent, rings until acknowledged, and the server records every step, so the morning after you can read what happened.

Team is $79 a month for up to ten people, by card, the first 14 days free, and the free account takes an email address. If you are on PagerDuty’s free plan and about to need a second schedule, this is the moment to compare.
